• The Scottish Funding Council administers funds to Scotland's Colleges, Universities and Higher Education Institutions.
• Scotland's Colleges support, represent and promote the Scottish college sector.
• The Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) is a general teaching union which college lecturers in Scotland are able to join.
• The National Union of Students Scotland (NUS Scotland) represents students in both the further and higher education sectors in Scotland.
• The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) accredits and awards Scottish qualifications at both compulsory and post-compulsory levels.

• The Professional Learning & Development Forum Scotland has a strategic oversight role in the professional development of all college staff. It also acts as an advisory body to the Scottish Executive.

• The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) jointly approves and accredits the Teaching Qualification (Further Education) with the Scottish Government.
