Future models (Scottish Government) - These models were prepared to aid a discussion around future university outcomes and activities. Their purpose is not to seek to prescribe a solution or impose a particular model, and there are no current plans to pursue any one model. Instead, they present for debate a broad range of options along the entire spectrum of future possibilities. Their value is on moving the debate forward from the status quo to looking at how we best equip our universities to meet future challenges. These challenges include a workforce which will contain more older workers and fewer younger ones, where participation in higher education will be an experience that increasingly happens alongside employment and maintaining the excellent international reputation we enjoy on learning, teaching and research in a fast moving and rapidly changing world.
As part of its work, the Taskforce is discussing these models with a view to identifying which elements might be worth further scrutiny and debate.
