Moorfoot Primary

General Introduction to Project

Moorfoot PrimaryMoorfoot Primary School is located in a rural setting on the periphery of the conservation village of North Middleton. The site lies on the main route through the village to Borthwick castle. The new school brings together the pupils and staff from the two former local schools, Borthwick and Temple primaries.

Moorfoot is one of eight new schools procured by Midlothian Council as part of their Schools PPP project. The project's key aim was to achieve efficient, modern primary provision for all learners including pupils with additional support needs.

The new single storey building provides a range of internal and external facilities and a school environment that is vibrant, colourful and educationally stimulating. It is a four class school with a 20/20 nursery. Pupils and users of the facilities have extensive social and curricular opportunities, and the facilities are provided within a safe and secure environment.

Moorfoot Primary School has been chosen as a case study, as it is an excellent example of an amalgamated school with very good external spaces that respond well to its rural setting.
