Windygoul Primary School

General Introduction to Project

WindygoulA proposed major housing development for Windygoul prompted the need to review Tranent's catchment area. This review concluded that a second new primary school should be constructed to the south of the town and that Tranent's existing catchment area should be redrawn and subdivided to form two catchment areas to serve Windygoul PS and Tranent PS (now Sanderson's Wynd PS, which is also included as a case study).

The facilities at Windygoul have been designed to accommodate a roll of 444 and include 14 classrooms, 50 am/pm nursery and community facilities such as a large well used sports hall.

The project has been chosen as a case study as an excellent example of a new build primary school which incorporates a number of sustainable design features.

Windygoul Primary School has also won the Carbon Trust 2008, Low Carbon Building Award. Please follow the link for the Carbon Trust case study of Windygoul Primary School.
