Reach Out

This project by the Workers Education Association (WEA) in Aberdeen piloted a "Survival Manual" containing issues relevant to the learners, with practical advice and information on budgeting, benefits, disability rights, disability access, and where to get support and advice if required. Learners used ICT to produce their manual.

Digital storytelling

This project by Shetland College developed and the use of Digital Storytelling to promote and improve literacies using the model of Digital Stories championed by the Centre for Digital Storytelling in Berkeley, U.S.A. This model uses a dozen or so images woven together with words to produce a 2 minute personal digital story.

Literacies through Peer Support and ICT

In this project by Lauder College, tutors worked in prisons to develop innovative ways of using peer tutors and ICT with literacies learners in the prison.

CLAN Edinburgh's elearning website

CLAN Edinburgh built on their existing online learning environment by creating e-learning content to fit with learners' course work, using the range of tools, including text files, audio files, PowerPoint slideshows, mind maps, quizzes, multiple choice questionnaires, web links, web quests, threaded and prompted discussions and journals.

Podcasters

Moray adult literacies partnership explored the use of audio in adult literacy learning. As well as looking at what the benefits were for learners using digital audio, the project also explored the role of oral literacy in encouraging written literacy.

Multi-media learning in a Multi-lingual Community

The purpose of the project, based in the Western Isles, involved learners in creating and using video and audio materials with web-based textual support to enhance both ESOL and Gaelic literacies learning.

Youth Literacies - M-Learning Project

This project from the North Ayrshire developed m-learning programmes using a range of media - video, sound, picture, text, voice, games and e-mail - all accessed through the use of PDAs. The downloadable games included integrated literacies elements.
