People with learning disabilities.

Aims of project

The aim is develop better-targeted services and participation by people with learning disabilities. The project will focus on helping people develop literacy skills, increase opportunities for volunteering and employment., and on curriculum development.

By developing more appropriate services, it is anticipated that the number of learners will increase.

Activities

The project will review current programmes with a particular focus on range, resources, progression, guidance and learner influence. There will also be consultation with existing learners and a survey of a range of literacy needs in a variety of contexts, including tenancies, health, volunteering, employment and finance.

The project hopes to develop a context based curriculum for people with learning disabilities. Work carried out with learners to develop a range of tools and materials to support the curriculum.

Through a final report and training sessions to staff, changes to curriculum design, materials and tools will be rolled out.

Pathfinder legacy

The legacy of this project will be an enhanced and more effective service delivered to people with learning difficulties. The project hopes to help people with disabilities build greater confidence and encourage their participation in volunteering, education, leisure and employment as well as helping them maintaining tenancies.
