1. What is needed to make this approach a practical possibility (in your organisation)? (73 points)
The most common focus was on the need for collaboration between care and learning, with many emphasising the need for commitment from management as well as face to face staff:
"We need support at a strategic level to encourage managers to encourage workers to work with us"
"Reaching managers in social care - How do we do this?
- Strategic levels need to be involved
- Partnership/ community planning level - Care Commission"
"We have made good links with care staff/ key workers but engaging effectively with staff at higher levels would be key."
"Strategic/ political decision for "learning" to be an element of peoples care plans"
Perhaps understandably, people feel the need for a change of practice to be resourced:
"Funding for extra training for staff/ provision of extra materials"
but this was not always a call for more resources:
"Find capacity for the engagement work required ~ community education?"
"Sharing of knowledge and resources"
Responses also recognised the need for targeted awareness-raising.
"Communication between agencies and cooperation needs to be enhanced"
"Re-run awareness training previously done with carers and supporters - this time with a focus on working together than on 'spotters and referrers'"
There is clearly a demand for accredited training beyond awareness raising.
"National contextualised training. ~ (more status than local?)"
"Accredited course … possible CPD module level 4/5 NCQF"
"expand Lit input to carers 'workplace' SVQ"
