The Scottish European Green Energy Centre

The Scottish European Green Energy Centre (SEGEC) was officially opened at the University of Aberdeen by The Rt Hon Alex Salmond MSP, First Minister of Scotland, on Monday 17 August 2009. The University of Aberdeen host SEGEC at their campus in Old Aberdeen.

An independent, not-for-profit organisation, SEGEC is sponsored by the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, ScottishPower and SSE, and is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the Lowlands and Uplands Scotland ERDF Programme 2007-13.

SEGEC's main remit is to facilitate large-scale, collaborative low-carbon infrastructure projects, which deliver real benefits for Scotland, the UK and Europe, and ensure Scotland realises its huge potential to contribute to the European Energy and Emissions targets for 2020 and beyond.

Since established in 2009, SEGEC has achieved over €110M of EU funding for green energy projects, and supported many more.

Its ability to successfully leverage funding for green energy projects is bolstered by its knowledge and expertise on the various public funding streams, which are available from the EU, UK and Scottish governments. SEGEC focuses on developing bids with the very highest chance of success. Due to the collaborative nature and large scale of the projects that it supports, its main focus, in terms of funding, is on the vast amounts of money that have been identified by Europe to stimulate the market.
