28 February 2011 - The Irish-Scottish Links on Energy Study (ISLES) Seminar

On Monday 28 February, the Irish-Scottish Links on Energy Study (ISLES) Seminar took place, with a number of stakeholders present, at the Office of the Northern Ireland Executive in Brussels.

Dr Patrick McWilliams of the Scottish Government presented the work that is ongoing in ISLES, to assess the feasibility of creating an integrated offshore grid to transport renewable energy generated in the northern coastal seas to key markets.

The presentation was followed by a Q&A session chaired by Gerry Mulligan, Head of the Northern Ireland Executive EU Office and included contributions from Martin Finucane, Principal of the Renewable Energy Division in the Irish Government. A summary of the event can be found here.

2 March 2011 - First SEGEC Annual Conference

SEGEC hosted its 2011 conference in Edinburgh. The conference discussed whether Scotland can build a future in the export of green energy, develop globally exportable skills and technology, and shrink the nation's carbon footprint. The First Minister delivered the keynote speech during the conference, which also included participation from the European Commission.

12- 15 April 2011 - EU Sustainable Energy Week, Brussels

This is the key annual event of the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign, which showcases activities dedicated to energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions.

An event jointly hosted by Scotland Europa, the Scottish Government and the Scottish European Green Energy Centre was held at Scotland House on 11 April- looked at mainstreaming energy efficiency across key energy related activities and sectors, highlighting the value of partnership with other European cities and regions and profiling best practice through the presentation of case studies. 24 - 27 May, EU Green Week

Scotland Europa and the Scottish Government EU Office are organising a policy seminar in Scotland House on 25 May, entitled "Resource Respect". More information is available here: http://resourcerespect.eventbrite.com/ It will include case studies from various Scottish organisations.
