Whole Town and Town Centre Strategies Working Grou

Background

At the Town Centres and Local High Streets learning network launch event, we asked delegates to identify the top challenges and issues where the network could provide support.

As a result of this feedback, and from ongoing discussions with members, understanding how to develop and deliver Whole Town and Town Centre Strategies has been identified as a key priority.

Over the next 12 to 18 months, we will deliver a programme that will support members to look at the key challenges, including:

  • why are Whole Town/Town Centre Strategies important?
  • what do they bring that is additional to the regeneration process?
  • what is the best way to engage local stakeholders?
  • what financial models and delivery vehicles are appropriate for different settings?
Working Group

As part of the learning programme we are putting together two working groups of learning network members who have an interest in developing and delivering Whole Town and Town Centre strategies for their town(s). Each working group will address the key issues and focuss on one of the strategies.

These facilitated working groups are expected to meet quarterly until March 2011 and take a real 'hands-on' approach to strategy development in towns. Members will debate the main challenges they would like to focus on and then work together towards a deliverable solution.

The first meeting of the working groups will take place on Wednesday, March 18 in Glasgow (timings to be confirmed).
