Scottish Town Centres: GVA Grimley Research

Glasgow

In 2009, GVA Grimley published the first 'Scottish Town Centres' research bulletin. Following the success of this research, GVA Grimley have now conducted an update analysis into the key trends and issues affecting Scotland's town centres today.

Richard Slipper (Director of Planning, GVA Grimley) and Paul Rounce (Associate, GVA Grimley) presented the findings of their updated research and led a discussion on how the retail sector can deliver development opportunities for our town centres.

The research provides a unique analysis of Scottish retail floorspace pipeline data, charting how proposals are progressing through the development process, towards implementation.

As well as examining more common, off-the-peg data, the research also involved a survey of local authorities in relation to delivering town centre development and the issues surrounding the Scottish Government's unprecedented £60 million Town Centre Regeneration Fund, awarded over the last year.

Whole Town Strategies: A European Perspective

Another learning network workshop took place on the morning of November 18, in the same venue. The workshop - Whole Town Strategies: A European Perspective - saw Willemijne Moes from the Dutch Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment discuss the Dutch approach to whole town regeneration.
