Masterplanning

At this Glasgow event on June 24 2009, Stephen Tucker, Turley Associates, shared his knowledge of creating effective masterplans. Key messages included:

  • masterplanning is a process (not an output)
  • it's not just about design - has to be developed alongside a vision for the area
  • the need for more ambitious and effective leadership (led by the public sector)
  • the need to engage meaningfully with stakeholders (including the community) at an early stage

Ideas for moving forward were discussed, including:

  • effective community engagement techniques and implementation guidance
  • joining up thinking through events
  • site visits - seeing things in action

The Learning Network will facilitate more detailed follow up action on these issues. Get involved in the discussion on our online forum.
