GUS

Growing Up in Scotland: Using Evidence in Practice, September 10, 2009

About the event

This workshop was run by the Community Regeneration and Tackling Poverty Learning Network in conjunction with the Scottish Centre for Social Research. GUS is an exciting new study that follows the lives of a national sample of Scotland's children from infancy through to their teens. It is one of the largest longitudinal studies ever done in Scotland and will provide information that will help develop policies affecting children and their families in Scotland.

The workshop aimed to:

  • To increase awareness and understanding of the Growing Up in Scotland (GUS) study
  • To highlight the ways in which GUS data can be used by Community Planning Partnerships, local authorites and others to inform the development of policy to tackle multiple deprivation in their areas
  • To allow practitioners to provide an insight into their needs so that we can try to ensure that as GUS goes forwards these needs are taken into account
  • To bring together practitioners from across Scotland to share their real life experiences and provide a forum to air problems and discuss strategies
