Better Community Engagement

The resources in this section comprise resource packs, frameworks or other tools which can be used in their entirety (or in sub-sections) to inform or underpin practice development in community engagement in a variety of contexts.

  • A framework for local authority community engagement. This framework is based on a draft being developed which aims to act as a structure supporting all council staff. It ensures that engagement activity across the council is co-ordinated, well-planned and of a consistently high standard. The framework should be useful for other authorities in helping them to identify what the key elements might be, what its purpose is, and how it can be implemented and monitored. It covers all of the Better Community Engagement Curriculum Framework elements. East Renfrewshire BCE local project.

» The Draft Framework

  • How public agencies and faith communities can work better together. This guidance was developed by Faith in Community (Scotland) and SCDC as part of the Better Community Engagement Programme. It is designed to help those who work in public and voluntary sector agencies and faith community representatives to engage better with one another. It includes: a resource guide, a sample session plan, a list of intermediary and faith organisations and a series of factsheets on faith communities in Scotland. The focus is the Better Community Engagement Curriculum Framework element; Recognising diversity and designing inclusive ways of working although it also assists in learning for the other elements.

» Faithful Endeavours

  • A guide and other resources to create and develop networks of champions in community engagement and communities of practice. The Fife Partnership BCE local project produced a welcome pack for its network of community engagement champions set up to promote and encourage good practice in community engagement across Fife. The pack also contains a number of resources and tools for better community engagement including case studies of good practice. The Edinburgh Partnership BCE local project produced description and terms of reference for their support network. The Better Community Engagement Curriculum Framework elements; Working in partnership with agencies, organisations and communities; Supporting people and organisations to learn together are the priorities.

  • Argyll and Bute Community Engagement Resource Pack. The pack covers Community Planning and community engagement and the role of the third sector in both. There is a comprehensive guide to community engagement resources and a section on evaluation with practice methods and tools. This covers all of the Better Community Engagement Curriculum Framework elements. Argyll and Bute BCE local project.
