Contribution to NPF Strategy

  • Expands opportunities for communities and businesses by promoting environmental quality and good connectivity.
  • Promotes development which helps to improve health, regenerate communities and enable disadvantaged communities to benefit access opportunities.
Milestones2009 - 2012 - Work in partnership to promote active travel, including improving cycling and walking opportunities and the completion of a national cycle network well connected to local neighbourhood networks in the preparation of development plans, associated action programmes and development management decisions, and consider the need for environmental assessment, appropriate assessment and detailed scheme level mitigation at plan or project level.

2008-11 Smarter Choices, Smarter Places sustainable transport demonstration programme is funding infrastructure improvements and associated behaviour change campaigns supporting active travel in seven communities (Barrhead, Dumfries, Dundee, Glasgow East End, Kirkintilloch/Lenzie, Kirkwall and Larbert/Stenhousemuir).

2010-11 £5m worth of funding given to Sustrans to extend and maintain the National Cycle Network.

June 2010 - Publish the Cycling Action Plan for Scotland.
