Position Dumfries and Galloway as the regional centre for Scotland's South west and deliver regeneration in Dumfries including improvements to the waterfront and improved flood defences.

Milestones

2009 onwards - Implement objectives of 'Dumfries and Galloway's Regional Economic Strategy in preparation of development plans, associated action programmes, masterplans, development briefs and development management decisions. Consider the need for environmental assessment, appropriate assessment and detailed scheme level mitigation at plan or project level.

Progress

July, 2011 - A number of strategies and initiatives are being led by the Council, including a town centre health check that will inform new local development plan policy. Main issue 6 is entitled 'Dumfries - Regional Capital' and discusses the main issues and opportunities facing Dumfries town centre. The implementation of the £2m Dumfries Town Centre Regeneration Fund project is underway.

18 March, 2011 - The Dumfries and Galloway Main Issues Report was published for public consultation
