Action

Realise development potential of the Inner Moray Firth and deliver infrastructure to support development in the A96 Inverness to Nairn Corridor.

Milestones (1)

2009-2010 - A96 Growth Corridor Development Framework to be fed into the preparation of the Highland-wide Local Development Plan, associated action programmes and development management decisions.

2009 - 2010 onwards - Work in partnership to co-ordinate activity, investment and action across the public and private sector to facilitate the delivery of the A96 Corridor infrastructure phasing programme and STPR A96 corridor transport infrastructure.

2009-2010 onwards - Planning applications to be submitted in line with the A96 Growth Corridor Development Framework. Consider the need for further Environmental Assessment and Appropriate Assessment work. Protect Natura 2000 sites by ensuring appropriate assessment of the proposal, including assessment of effects in combination with other plans and projects.

July, 2011 - the Proposed Highland Wide Local Development Plan was published in September 2010. Subject to completion of planning obligations, The Highland Council is minded to grant planning permissions for Inverness Airport Business Park and a major urban extension of Inverness at East Seafield and Stratton. Transport Scotland has commissioned and received a design study for upgrade of the A96 between Inverness and Nairn, including a Nairn by-pass.

August 2009 - Highland Wide LDP Main Issue Report proposes significant development in the A96 corridor as a key part of the preferred strategy
Milestones (2)2012 - 2022 - Implement Strategic Transport Projects Review (STPR) project 18 - Upgrade A96 Dual Carriageway between Inverness.
