Action

Create port developments and improvements to road and rail infrastructure to support the Loch Ryan ferry ports as Scotland's main roll-on/roll-off gateway to Ireland.

Milestones (1)2009 - Design and development of new ports in line with development plan and associated action programmes, regional transport strategies and development management decisions. Consider the need for further environmental assessment and appropriate assessment, and integrated coastal management at project level to define scheme level mitigation measures including design to protect biodiversity, water quality and cultural heritage. Work with shipping sector to minimise the effects of shipping activity and reduce emissions. Consider the need for further appropriate assessment at project development stage.

January 9, 2009 - planning permission granted for advance works at old House Point near Cairnryan.

Autumn 2011 - New Loch Ryan ferry port remains on schedule to be opened, with the official opening proposed for November 25, 2011.

February 4, 2010 - Stena Line Ltd's Harbour Empowerment Order (HEO) was approved by Parliament and came into force.

January 15, 2010 - the HEO was submitted to Scottish Ministers, accompanied by an Environmental Statement.

Milestones (3)Post 2012 - Additional Improvements to the A75 and A77.

Improvements to the A75 and A77 are ongoing.

Current planned improvements are expected to be completed around the date anticipated of the opening of the new port in 2011.

October 2010 - The Cairntop to Barlae dual carriageway scheme on the A75 opened 10 weeks ahead of schedule.

June 6, 2011 - The A77 Parkend to Bennane scheme was fully opened to traffic, within its contract period and within budget.
