Milestones

2009 onwards - Develop masterplan for diversification of uses as outlined in the "Review of Ports & Sites in the Inner Moray Firth". Consider the need for further Environmental Assessment and Appropriate Assessment work at project level. Protect Natura 2000 sites by ensuring appropriate assessment of the proposal, including assessment of effects in combination with other plans and projects

Progress

May 2010 - Scottish Government, SNH, HIE and Highland Council agreed to gather evidence to better support assessment of the likely impacts of the development aspirations around the Moray Firth on Natura interests

February 2010 - the Scottish Government's National Renewables Infrastructure Plan identifies Nigg as a potential first phase site for the integrated manufacturing of renewable energy devices.

November 2009 - Highland Council adopted a masterplan for the redevelopment of Nigg Fabrication Yard as supplementary guidance. It promotes use for manufacturing or assembly of renewable energy components and other appropriate industrial uses.
