The Scottish Private Rented Sector Strategy Group was established in September 2009 to consider the conclusions of the Scottish Government's Review of the Private Rented Sector which was published in March 2009 and to prioritise activity and make recommendations on the way forward. Review of the Private Rented Sector which was published in March 2009 and to prioritise activity and make recommendations on the way forward.
Chaired by Professor Douglas Robertson (Head of Applied Social Science, Stirling University), the group played a key role in advising the Scottish Government during the development of the Private Rented Housing (Scotland) Act 2011.
With the Act now passed, the group will now turn its attention to advising the Scottish Government on the development of a strategy for the private rented sector in Scotland to help support tenants, landlords, local authorities and others to continue to develop a flourishing, professional, high quality private rented sector that is equipped to provide sustainable housing solutions for Scotland in the 21st century.
Membership of the group includes representatives from:
- COSLA;
- Local Authorities;
- Scottish Association of Landlords;
- Scottish Land and Estates;
- Chartered Institute of Housing; and
- Shelter
The work of the group is also supported by a wider, virtual network of stakeholders from across Scotland who have an interest in the private rented sector. All documentation and minutes from meetings of the Scottish Private Rented Sector Strategy Group are shared with this wider network and stakeholders involved are able to feed in their views, experiences and comments to the strategy and action plan as it develops.
