Older guidance Notes

This list comprises Communities Scotland and Scottish Homes guidance notes issued up to December 2007 which may still be relevant (Reference CSGN and SHGN respectively). Communities Scotland was abolished on 1 April 2008. On that date, most of its non-regulatory functions were transferred to the Scottish Government's Housing and Regeneration directorate.

Separate subsections have been created for 2008 and 2009 Guidance notes.

CSGN 2006/10 The Regulatory Code of Governancesets out the key principles and requirements for the good governance of registered social landlords. The Supporting Guidance provides a practical commentary on the Code that will assist RSLs in identifying how they can achieve the high standards of governance described in the Regulatory Code. This procedure note advises RSLs on current good practice associated with the specification and sourcing of timber and timber related products. Since the procedure note was published in May 2005, two additional forest certification schemes have been recognised :

• Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC)

• The North American Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI).

Part 1 of Schedule 7 of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 restricts the types of payments and benefits that RSLs can make to employees, governing body members and their close relatives. This guidance provides information on the interpretation of the terms of Schedule 7 and details the circumstances under which payments can be made or benefits granted.
