How The Affordable Housing Investment Programme Is Managed

As part of the Scottish Government's Housing and Regeneration Directorate, the Housing Investment Division's main responsibility is to manage the Affordable Housing Investment Programme. Most of the programme is used to provide grants to registered social landlords to build new homes for rent and low-cost home ownership, but also includes grants and assistance to councils, individuals and private companies.

The AHIP is administered through three regional teams, based in eight geographically dispersed local area offices, supported by a central investment co-ordination unit. (In Glasgow and Edinburgh, day-to-day management of the Affordable Housing Investment Programme has been devolved to the relevant city council.)

The Housing Investment Division is also responsible for delivering a more efficient and effective Affordable Housing Investment Programme and laying the basis for systematic reform in future years. It is also responsible for delivering more strategic approaches to planning for housing and estate regeneration in partnership with local authorities, for example, through support for and review of local authorities' local housing strategies and Strategic Housing Investment Plans.

Most local authorities' local housing strategies and Strategic Housing Investment Plans are available on their websites.
