Advice and information
Councils have a statutory duty to ensure the provision of housing and homelessness advice and assistance to all people, free of charge, in their areas.
Advice and information can be a very effective tool to prevent homelessness and to help people decide what is the best solution to their housing needs. It may not just cover information on housing, but also on related issues which may lead to homelessness or be a result of it, such as debt advice and legal advice.
Advice and information strategies are being produced in local areas to ensure that councils plan for the provision of good quality and effective advice and information. Advice and information is required to meet relevant National Standards to ensure consistency of provision across the country.
