Mountain Weather Forecasts

There are currently two free mountain weather forecast services provided for hill users in Scotland.

• The Scottish Avalanche Information Service ( www.sais.gov.uk), which is available online from December to April, covers forecasts on avalanche hazards in Scotland's five main climbing areas: Glen Coe; Lochaber; Creag Meagaidh; Northern Cairngorms; and Southern Cairngorms.
• The Met Office supplies 2-day weather forecasts for the East Highlands and the West Highlands which are available all year round online at the Met Office Mountain area forecasts ( www.metoffice.com).

The Executive is currently considering a report from the Mountaineering Council of Scotland on the proposed provision of a more comprehensive, all year round, weather forecast service for Scotland's mountainous areas.
