Governing Bodies

Athletes who are eligible to represent Scotland or the UK at junior or senior level may be supported through a sport's governing body. They must be committed to a specific sport and have met the appropriate international standards of performance.

Funding for these athletes is provided through sportscotland, who make an annual investment to a recognised governing body against an operational business plan. This gives the governing bodies a degree of control over the financial support their athletes receive.

For further information on funding and details of the recognised governing bodies for sports in Scotland please visit sportscotland's funding for athletes web page.
