25/11/2009 - Open for business
Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Government and its partners have been working hard to ensure that Scottish businesses can bid for and secure London 2012 and 2014 contracts. To date Scottish Enterprise has engaged with around 4000 businesses across Scotland about the opportunities arising from 2012 and 2014.
Scottish businesses have successfully been winning contracts for London 2012 projects. Barr recently won the contract for building the temporary basketball arena for 2012. Other Scottish companies including BiP Solutions and Miller Partnership have also won contracts.
The Organising Committee of the Commonwealth Games is hosting a business portal on its website at www.glasgow2014.com/businessportal which encourages businesses from all over Scotland to apply for contracts relating to the 2014 games.
24/11/2009 - Businesses - Get Ready to Compete!
Get ready to compete: how your business can benefit from the London 2012 and Glasgow 2014 Games
Construction of the physical facilities to host the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is well underway. The London 2012 authorities have started to procure goods and services required beyond the building associated with the staging of the Games themselves.
It's also an exciting time for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, where the building of venues to host the games and their athletes has begun. The Glasgow 2014 procurement portal has recently been launched and businesses can now register their interest in being considered for future Games-related work.
If you want to hear more about these opportunities, and how your businesses can go about bidding for Games-related work, come and join us at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall between 09:30 and 12:00 on 2 December.
Speakers will include:
- Jim McFarlane (Managing Director, Operations, Scottish Enterprise) on why global games events are so important in the context of the current economic environment
- Paul Deighton (Chief Executive, London Organising Committee of The Olympic and Paralympic Games) on the opportunities for businesses in the run up to and during the staging of the Games
- John Scott (Chief Executive, Glasgow 2014 Ltd - the organising committee for the Games) and Archie Graham (Councillor, Glasgow City Council) on progress with the Commonwealth Games and the types of contract opportunities available to businesses
