Source: SAAS management information.
1. Student numbers have been rounded up or down to the nearest 5 (e.g. 1, 2 round to 0; 3, 4 round to 5)
2. Fee loans were introduced for new students studying outside Scotland in the rest of the UK in 2006-2007. Students receiving fee loans are included under 'fees'.
3. Student loan entitlement is calculated by SAAS but the Student Loans Company extends the loan. These figures relate to entitlement rather than uptake which may be lower. Prior to 1999-00 students applied for a loan through their institution.
4. Totals may not equal the sum of their constituent parts due to rounding.
5. This group includes those who have not declared income because they have applied for non-income assessed support only and those whose income is so low that they receive the full support package.
6. This group comprises all those who have no benefactor to assess for a contribution to their support. Such students will be entitled to maximum loan amounts and supplementary grants.

30. Table 10 shows that 19.1% of those receiving any support have declared parental/spousal incomes of £20,000 or less, compared to 38.0% of those receiving awards, 19.0% of those receiving fees or fee loans, and 22.2% of those maintenance loan authorisations. The majority of awards are income assessed although Disabled Students' Allowance and Lone Parents' Childcare Grant are not.

31. The 'income not declared/required' category accounts for 4.5% of all those receiving awards, 36.8% of those receiving fees or fee loans and 18.6% of those with maintenance loan authorisations. This category includes both those who have not declared income because they have applied for non-income assessed support only and those whose income is so low they automatically receive the full support package. 750 students in this category received the maximum Young Students Bursary of £2,575.
