Major inquiries

In addition to many small-scale but individually important cases, the following were the subject of major or controversial planning appeal and call-in inquiries during the year. Major cases are classed for the purposes of this review as those that involve more than 20 third parties.

  • Residential developments at Leswalt, Stranraer; Hepburn Gardens, St Andrews; the former Tay Rope Works, Dundee; Northfield Road, Dunipace and Tarbert Drive, Livingston.
  • Windfarm developments: Bardnaheigh Farm, by Thurso; Muaitheabhal, Isle of Lewis; Stacain, near Inverary; Kildrummy, Alford; Mountboy, Angus; Montreathmont Road, Arbroath; Bullwood Road, Dunoon; Dunion Hill, Jedburgh and Kelburn Estate, Fairlie.
  • Retail or mixed use developments at Slackbuie Farm, Inverness; Ernespie Road, Castle Douglas; Milngavie Road, Bearsden; Beith Street, Glasgow and Market Road, Biggar.
  • Golf course and resort development at Menie Estate, Balmedie.
  • Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route.
  • New office headquarters at Explorer Road, Dundee.
  • Mixed use office, leisure and tourism at Gilston Park, Polmont.
  • M8 (Baillieston to Newhouse) Special Road Scheme.

In addition to this, the Beauly to Denny power line inquiry report was submitted to Scottish Ministers early in 2009.
