6. One-way tolls were introduced for Tay bridge (1 June 1991) and Forth bridge (1 September 1997) so figures after these dates have been estimated by the Scottish Executive. Tolls were removed from the Skye bridge on 21 December 2004, the Erskine bridge on 31 March 2006 and the Forth and Tay bridges on 11 February 2008.

7. At 1 April.

8. Those services for which figures are (at least) available back to 1975:
Caledonian MacBrayne, P&O Scottish Ferries / NorthLink Orkney & Shetland, and Orkney Ferries.

9. Figures are provisional - figures for some local authorities have been rolled forward whilst awaiting responses.

10. The figures have been updated to take account of updates received since Key 2008 Road Casualty Statistics was published.

11. ScotRail has introduced a new methodology which will better estimate Strathclyde Zonecard journeys from 2009 onwards. The impact of this new methodology on previous data is presented here alongside the original figures. Note that this has no impact on actual journeys undertaken. Further detail on this can be found from paragraphs 4.4 onwards.
