2. The diagnosis of SLCI is related, in part, to the difference between verbal and non-verbal performance and IQ measures. Children/Young people with SLCI will have an overall IQ performance above a specific level, but within that measure there will be significant difference between verbal and non-verbal measures of performance and, by extension, ability. Most of us will have strengths and weaknesses e.g. numerate versus literate but not with any significant disparity - so our performance may well measure on a curve. The performances for these children spike rather than curve.
