THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT'S VISION FOR THE SEAS

11. Marine Scotland is charged with leading delivery of the Scottish Government's marine vision which has at its heart the purpose of sustainable economic growth and the marine environment. The Government's National Outcomes and targets flow from the Scottish Government's purpose and Marine Scotland's relationship to these is shown below.

12. Ministers' vision for the Scottish seas is to deliver sustainable economic growth through:

Clean, healthy, safe, productive, biologically diverse marine and coastal environments, managed to meet the long term needs of nature and people.

13. The seas and the marine species that live in them are not static but are an ever changing environment. While there are administrative boundaries between Scotland, the UK Government and other devolved administrations, EU Member states and third countries, we need to work closely across these to manage the wider seas for the benefit of all. Scotland has an important role to play in delivering better stewardship of the seas in the UK, Europe and beyond.

14. Within Scotland, Marine Scotland will lead and work with others who share marine interests to deliver the Scottish Government's priorities. Marine Scotland cannot deliver the vision on its own.

15. The following diagram shows that there are many delivery partners at local, Scottish and UK levels which all have a part to play. Marine Scotland will be at the centre and will lead on the development of integrated marine policy and its efficient and effective delivery.
