This dissertation seeks to explore the motivations of stakeholders in promoting and preparing masterplans and then investigating the extent to which the process for formalising masterplans in the statutory planning system delivers these motivations at the development implementation stage.
Judges' comments
There was a clear majority view amongst the Judges that this piece of work deserved an Award. It stood out from the other entries as they found it was a very thoughtful and timely study. It emphasised the importance of masterplanning and explored the approaches taken in mainland Europe. The strong message of more pro-active and collaborative approaches between local authorities and design teams was welcomed. Overall, it was considered that this piece of work was clearly written and certainly questioned some fundamental design issues.
