The number of Scots qualifiers from Scottish institutions increased by 1% since 2005-06 to 56,325 in 2006-07, of which 17% were at postgraduate level (9,360), 38% at first degree (21,190) and 46% were at sub-degree level (25,770). Scots domiciles account for nearly three quarters (73%) of qualifiers at Scottish institutions (56,325). There were 6,165 (largely unchanged since last year) qualifiers from the rest of the UK (accounting for 8% of qualifiers), 4,360 (up 14%) from the rest of the EU (6% of qualifiers) and 10,535 (up 18%) from outside the EU (14% of all qualifiers). Compared to 1999-00 the number of qualifiers in 2006-07 had increased by 2%; 11%, 79% and 113% for qualifiers from Scotland, the rest of the UK, the rest of the EU and outside the EU respectively 6. (Table 9).

Most qualifiers from the rest of the UK (69%) gained first degree qualifications (4,230) and most EU qualifiers gained first degree (2,180) or postgraduate qualifications (1,795) (50% and 41% respectively). Of qualifiers from outside the EU 62% qualified at postgraduate level (6,555) - accounting for 34% of all postgraduate qualifiers from Scottish institutions (table 9). The rise in qualifiers from outside the UK of 7,515, since 1999-00, accounts for 84% of the 8,995 overall increase in qualifiers at Scottish institutions over the same period 6. (Table 9).
