Scottish Planning Policy 14 Natural Heritage

What prompted the PPS ( e.g. legislative, regulatory or administrative provision)

The review of the NPPG14 has partly been prompted by the move to preparing SPPs, which provide clearer and more concise statements of Government policy. In addition, changes in the natural heritage framework including new designations, programmes and initiatives mean that that it would be useful to update the existing policy. The Nature Conservation (Scotland) Act 2004 has also been prepared and enacted since NPPG14 was prepared in 1999.

Purpose and/or objectives of PPS

The SPP will update and replace the existing national planning policy for natural heritage - NPPG14. It will provide guidance on how national policies for the conservation and enhancement of Scotland's natural heritage should be reflected in land use planning.
