FOREWORD
2006-7 was an eventful year for Health Research in Scotland. The publication of the findings of the Cooksey Review had implications that are still being discussed and it will take some time for the new arrangements to bed in. The involvement of the Developed Administrations will be crucial for the UK picture and this is requiring negotiations at all levels. The year was also the first full year of operation of the Scottish Topic Specific Networks set up under the UK Clinical Research Collaboration banner and reports of their progress, along with general progress in clinical research are described in Chapter 2. We are continuing to see the outcomes of CSO funded research resulting in clinical changes and some interesting cases are described in Chapter 3, along with a report on the activities being funded through Scottish Health Innovations Ltd.
During 2006-7 the Chief Scientist Professor Roland Jung took the decision to step down from his role and he has now returned to clinical work in Dundee. His contribution to Health Research in Scotland over the past few years cannot be overstated. At the time of going to print a new Chief Scientist has not yet been appointed.
