Scottish Beef Calf Scheme: Notes for Guidance
Listen
1 Outline of the scheme
- The Scottish Beef Calf Scheme ( SBCS) gives direct support to specialist beef producers.
- The scheme year runs from 1 January to 31 December.
- We will pay on male and female calves which are at least 75% beef bred and at least 30 days old.
- These calves must have been born on your Scottish holding and kept there for at least 30 days.
- Animals born on or after 2 December of any given year are not eligible for the scheme until the following year. We consider an animal to be one day old the day after it has been born (for example, we consider an animal born on 1 May to be one day old on 2 May). So an animal born on or after 2 December is not 30 days old until 1 January.
- You should send your claims to a SEERAD area office. For each animal you claim for, you should include a movement card from its passport.
- There is no limit to the number of claims you can make in a year.
- You must make sure a herd record book of all cattle on your holding is kept, in line with the Cattle Identification Regulations.
- We will vary the payment rate depending on the total number of eligible animals producers claim for in Scotland each calendar year.
- We may inspect your holding to check your claim.
