WEST EDINBURGH / PLANNING FRAMEWORK
The West Edinburgh Planning Framework ( WEPF) 2006 was published for consultation on 29 November 2006. Responses are required by 21 February 2007. The Edinburgh Airport Master Plan land take is the starting point. The Framework includes proposals to relocate the Royal Highland Centre to a new site south of the A8; policy for allocating land between the Airport and A8 for international business development including a quality hotel gateway on Eastfield Road; and policy for removing development land from Green Belt. The area is to be served by tram and rail investment, new road links from the Gogar junction to the Airport and then west to rejoin the A8 near Ratho Station. Robust public transport mode share targets will underlie all development. A potential direct link from the Airport to the M8 is not intended to be proceeded with. A draft Strategic Environmental Assessment accompanies the Framework.
