INTRODUCTION
This report has been produced to provide an insight into activities underway in Scotland that support our reform of public services both in terms of improved service delivery and efficiency. This does not include all activity but in the main includes developments where ICT is an enabler to transformation or reform. The report has been put together to ensure that the public could access information on the Scottish position in relation to the UK Transformation Government's Annual Report. It is not a direct comparison as Scotland has its own agenda designed to meet the needs of the Scottish Public Sector, but it is meant to be complementary to work across the UK. In order to support the key objectives of i2010 and to ensure that devolved and reserved developments are complimentary to the overall benefit of citizen access we do work closely with the UK Government through the Chief Information Officer ( CIO) Council to develop a clear understanding of progress with their implementation plan. In addition, we meet with the other devolved administration on a biannual basis to share developments and good practice. The Scottish Executive will consider beyond this initial report the benefits of providing further updates on progress with transforming public services.
The first part of the report sets out some of the key drivers for efficiency and reform and describes relevant activity in those areas. The sections that follow describe relevant activity across the Scottish Executive portfolio's and key associated departments such as Registers of Scotland and General Register Office for Scotland. At the end of each section there is a table which identifies which key principles of reform and broad partnership agreement commitments the relevant projects progress.
WAY FORWARD
In order to harness the activity that is underway and build on this strategically we have commissioned a scoping study of the Public Sector ICT Infrastructure in Scotland. The study will baseline the current position and will set out the options for a more efficient and effective infrastructure over the next 5, 10 and 15 years. The study is the first step in delivering a Public Sector ICT Strategy which will take Scotland forward and support our vision for world class public services. It will also help us to identify synergies with the UK Government Transformational Government agenda and the EU i2010 agenda.
