Acknowledgements

We would like to thank all of those who participated in this research. Thanks are due to schools throughout Scotland for their efforts in enabling the national survey of pupils to take place. The survey could not have happened without their assistance. We are grateful to the schools which took part in the focus study element of the research and which made considerable demands on their time. A variety of staff in local authorities across Scotland provided us with their perspectives on part-time employment of school pupils and we extend our thanks to them.

We would also like to thank the pupils, parents and employers who shared their views and experiences of part-time work with us.

We wish to acknowledge and thank the wider research team for their contributions and support throughout the research: Sandy Hobbs, Seonaid Anderson and Amanda Simpson of the Child Employment Research Group; Linda Brownlow of the Centre for Enterprising Careers and John Hart of the Centre for Educational Sociology.

Our thanks also go to the administrative staff, Carolyn Newton and Marcia Wright, at the Centre for Educational Sociology for their hard work and patience throughout the research.

The research was supported by an Advisory Committee and we thank them for their input.

The research was funded by the Scottish Executive Enterprise, Transport and Lifelong Learning Division. The views expressed in this report are those of the authors alone and do not necessarily reflect those of the Scottish Executive.
