Note: Centres providing pre-school education as a local authority centre or in partnership with the local authority only.
Children are counted once for each centre they are registered with.
361 centres did not provide information about registrations. Where possible figures from the 2005 census have been used for those centres (282 centres). For the remaining 79, the median numbers of registrations for each type of pre-school have been applied.
Local authority percentage estimates are calculated on the local authority in which the centre is located. Children may cross authorities to attend pre-school education.
The percentage estimates are based on the number of children eligible for pre-school education. In previous years these estimates were calculated based on the number of children aged 3, 4 or 5 as at January in the given year. For this reason, results are not comparable to those published in previous years.
As a result of incomplete information being returned, the possibility of double counting and children attending pre-school in neighbouring authorities, and as population figures are estimates, the above percentages are estimates and should be interpreted with caution.
