Appendix 4: Examples of good practice
- Use of JRSO/ have JRSO in the school (2)
- Road Safety Week throughout the school at the start of term
- Used very successfully in nursery (but not recently)
- We've incorporated the resource into our Health education programme
- Used as part of Health and Safety week and forms a major part of the work at that time
- Used during June of each session, preparing the pupils for the Summer holidays
- Many examples of use within the curriculum - willing to share planners / classroom visits etc to clarify the situation
- Have six JRSO who organise the bulletin board and give short presentations for each class
- Have arranged funding for every child in school to have a reflector to wear to and from school
- Road safety fortnight yearly involving the whole school
- Linking Streetsense with JRSO and competitions
- Have utilised Streetsense in the road safety aspects of the health curriculum
- Have found it to be a very straightforward and practical resource
- Have developed a three year rolling programme and we use the resource extensively in our Road Safety Week.
- Incorporated road safety in our health programme of study and this includes Streetsense - relevant parts are used by staff as necessary
- Used Streetsense as part of a 10 week road safety programme
- Whole school focus for one week culminating in an assembly to share knowledge
- Consistent raising of awareness throughout the year and how knowledge should be used
- Have different activities throughout the school session e.g. walk to school week
- RSO spoke to 10 volunteer parents from each class about taking children into the streets to look for a safe place to cross
- Road safety week using Streetsense divided into 7 stages, so over the years all of it is covered by each pupil
- Finish off Road Safety week with a quiz attended by the whole school
