PATIENTS AND THEIR MEDICINES IN HOSPITAL

Introduction

This letter alerts you to the publication of a joint report prepared by a Working Group of the National Pharmaceutical Forum and the Scottish Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee on patients and their medicines in hospital.

The report, which was commissioned in response to an action point from The Right Medicine - A Strategy for Pharmaceutical Care in Scotland, provides guidance on improving systems of control for the management of medicines in hospital.

Action

The Scottish Executive Health Department strongly commends this report to NHS Boards and Operating Divisions and encourages them to adopt the standards, criteria and recommendations made in this report in order to improve the patient's journey in relation to medicines throughout their stay in hospital.
