    Digital Inclusion Consultation Responses Introduction

We sought to encourage a range of views from diverse groups using different methods. The consultation consisted of a written consultation paper with a questionnaire comprising 28 questions and an invitation to insert free text to elaborate on any points or issues which the respondent felt had not been adequately addressed. This written consultation ran from 28 October 2005 until 27 January 2006. In addition, we held a series of 3 focus groups aimed at particular stakeholders that had expert knowledge to contribute to the development of digital inclusion policy and held 6 public meetings across Scotland between 30 November 2005 and 2 February 2006. We also undertook a series of meetings and visits to a range of venues delivering access, support and skills training to a range of users. This enabled us to learn more about current activity and hear examples of best practice. The consultation sought answers to questions on a number of issues and key themes and was designed to seek comments on the success (or otherwise) of the previous strategy, particularly for certain groups. In addition, we sought views on current areas for consideration and encouraged respondents to consider the future and how we might overcome difficulties that could lie ahead. The responses to this consultation will allow us to develop a strategy appropriate to the needs of all Scotland's people, but particularly those groups that are already disadvantaged.

    Respondents:

While we issued a questionnaire, we sought and welcomed responses in any format, from a wide variety of stakeholders. In particular, we wanted to hear from community groups, community practitioners, equality groups and disability groups in addition to representatives from the business and voluntary sector. We have received a range of responses to this consultation and an analysis of these will be available on 2 March 2006. If you have difficulty in accessing the responses below and wish to obtain the documents in a format alternative to PDF, please contact: Ann Sunderland at ann.sunderland@scotland.gsi.gov.uk or telephone 0131 244 1471.
