NEED TO KNOW

EAST AYRSHIRE ADVOCACY NOW REPRESENTS THE OVER 65s

By Karen McGlone, Co-ordinator (Older People's Service)

If you are aged over 65 years, living in the East Ayrshire Council area, you need support to make your concerns known and make sure you have a say in decisions that affect you - then we can help.

East Ayrshire Advocacy Services has been around for 10 years. However, in 2003 we launched our Older People's Service. It is free and confidential to residents of East Ayrshire aged 65 years and above.

As East Ayrshire includes a number of rural communities a base for the service has been established within the Doon Valley at:

Roseburn Day Centre
Holmhead Hospital
Hospital Road
Cumnock KA18 1RR
t. 01290 429404

The main office still remains in Kilmarnock itself.

A NEW WAY TO MAKE YOURSELF HEARD IN SOUTH LANARKSHIRE

By Cath McQuistan, Senior Advocacy Worker

Age Concern Scotland has launched a new advocacy service for anyone who lives in South Lanarkshire, aged 65 or over. It's a free, confidential and professional advocacy run by Age Concern Scotland and will deal with all issues affecting older people. Staff operate from three new offices in Carluke, Cambuslang and Hamilton and can be contacted on 0141 643 3509 or 01555 773837.

Cath McQuistan, senior advocacy worker, said: "Older people can sometimes feel that no one is listening to what they want and that things are happening to them that they have no control over. Our service is about standing side by side with the person and supporting them to make their voice heard."

The aim of the advocacy service is to ensure that older people are in control of the decisions that affect our lives and that we have full access to the services available in our local community. The advocacy staff can offer practical support and assistance over a very wide range of issues from housing to health, and we do our level best with every issue.
