Summary Changes in the area of derelict and urban vacant land recorded in Scotland.

2.17 Table 5 shows a summary of the changes in the area of derelict and urban vacant land recorded in Scotland in 2004. Overall, there were 410 hectares of new sites added to the survey. 466 hectares were brought back into use, 173 were removed for definitional reasons and 1 hectare of land was removed from the survey due to naturalisation.

1. See Annex Table C for details of council participation in 2004.
2. Sites that increase in size are not recorded separately in the survey, consequently the total amount of derelict and urban vacant sites recorded in a particular year may be greater than that expected from the changes recorded since the previous year. This year, it is estimate d that 40 hectares have been added to the survey due to sites increasing in size and a further 5 hectares from the re-measuring of sites since the last survey.
