* not available due to confidentiality contraints
1. Excludes central and local government. Primary Care Trusts were reclassified to central government in 2001 and are therefore excluded from 2001 onwards. NHS Trusts were reclassified to central government in 2003 and are therefore excluded from 2003 onwards.
2. Turnover data for financial intermediation enterprises are not available. Totals exclude turnover of such enterprises.
3. Counts of the number of enterprises operating within each LEC area have been included. These do not sum to the total for Scotland, as the same enterprise may operate in more than one area.
4. Braehead is shown as part of Renfrewshire LEC, following the LA boundary change in June 2002 between Glasgow and Renfrew
5. Unallocable enterprises are those not registered on the IDBR. Unregistered enterprises are estimated using other data sources. Please refer to 'Definitions, Methodologies and Sources' for further details.
