In 2002 the Scottish Executive Education Department (SEED) launched a programme to develop approaches to personal learning planning. Thirty-two Scottish schools took part over two years.

Gratitude is due to staff and young people in all the schools in the two Personal Learning Plan projects that were part of the wider Assessment is for Learning Programme. The contribution of school personnel, young people and local authority officers who were interviewed is particularly acknowledged. The Project Development Officers from Learning and Teaching Scotland provided helpful information that allowed the evaluation project to run smoothly and was much appreciated.
