Note: The data used in this table are based on a sample of anonymised Care Commission data, therefore will not cover all services inspected. Absolute employment figure for Orkney falls beneath disclosure levels therefore is not included.

The following maps show the number of employees in the private, public and voluntary sectors as percentages of all social care employees. This is based on the post codes of the employees' workplace, not their home, which may fall under a different local authority especially in urban areas where commuting to work across local authority boundaries may be common. It is clear that the sector composition of employment varies significantly across local authorities though some of this variation may be caused by differences in the sampling of data.
