Dear Sir/Madam

COMMUNITY PLANNING AND THE INTERFACE WITH LAND USE PLANNING:
CORE SCRIPT

The Local Government in Scotland Act 2003 sets out the legislative framework for community planning. While the structures and processes for community planning are continuing to develop, the effectiveness of the interface with land use planning is a key element in the delivery of both processes.

Please find enclosed a core script, the purpose of which is to provide guidance on the evolving relationship between community planning and land use planning. The document sets out the differences and complementarities between the two processes, which we hope will help to clarify the relationship in more detail. We recognise that, over time, the advice may need to be reviewed and updated.

The core script is also available at http://www.scotland.gov.uk/about/Planning/information.aspx.

If you have any queries on the core script, please contact Rosie Grant in Planning Division on 0131 244 7553 or Robin Benn in Performance and Improvement Division on 0131 244 4956.

Yours faithfully
