Table 3 - the Skillseekers programme was fully implemented in Scotland in 1996. The target group is 16-17 year olds (the Youth Guarantee Group), and Local Enterprise Companies (LECs) have discretion to fund training for 18-24 year olds. 'Get Ready for Work' is the strand of Skillseekers that covers provision for young people with additional support needs. Modern Apprenticeships (MAs) were introduced in 1996 and are primarily for 16-24 year olds. However, LECs have discretion to fund employees aged over 25. The proportion of school leavers entering employment who are also on Skillseekers or Modern Apprenticeship training is not known. Table 3 gives the number of young people training on these programmes to October 2003. At October 2003, around 75 per cent of mainstream Skillseekers and 99 per cent of Modern Apprentices received a wage.
